Black Caviar Nails

Hello friends :))

Today's nail design was created using products sent to me for review by the kind people at the Born Pretty Store. This online nail/beauty supplier offers tons of products for nail artists and enthusiasts; plus other gadgets, cosmetics, and hair items for all beauty lovers. For this nail design, I used a matte nail polish & some black rhinestones to create this Black Caviar inspired manicure:

Ball-Droppin' New Years Makeup!

Salut mes amis!!

If you can't tell by my "clever" post title, today's look is another makeup idea for New Years 2012 :)) In this post, I'm presenting a sleek cat eye cut-crease look that may seem tricky at first glance, but it's actually quite easy to recreate! This eye makeup appealed to me particularly because it looks as though it took a lot of time and effort, when in fact, it took no longer than your average smokey eye! I'm adding another easy step-by-step tutorial so that anyone can follow along and duplicate this one. So, check out this look if you're ready to stand out of the crowd when that ball drops!! Are you ready for New Years or what??!!!

Sparkly Eyeballs for 2012

Salut mes belles!!

I hope you had a very merry Christmas and/or are continuing your celebration of Hanukkah. With just a few days left before the new year, I'm going to try to dedicate the remaining month's posts to the big New Year's Eve fiesta. Let me know if you'd like to see something in particular by leaving me a comment here or e-mailing me at FixYourFaceMakeup at Gmail.com. For now, here's my sparkly smokey eye to glisten while you wait to see the ball drop. Likey?

Wintry for Hanukkah :)

Shalom my friends :))

Celebrating the second day of Hanukkah, I have a simple wintry makeup look inspired by the blue and white color combination of this wonderful Jewish holiday. As you know, I'm someone who celebrates it all... Not only am I a person of mixed background, but I am also a New Yorker who embraces all things culture related, hence I celebrate Xmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Years and more--bring it on!!! I love the festivities :)))

Casually Festive :)

Salut mes belles :)

I'm back with another quick and easy holidays themed makeup look. I've been spending this past week out of state visiting with my extended fam, so my past few posts were prepared ahead of time, except for today's, which is literally the makeup I've been wearing for the "family holidays" occasion. Whenever I travel on short trips, my makeup essentials include solely the Urban Decay NAKED palette, my mineral foundation, concealer, liner, mascara, some blush and one or two lipsticks. Hence, this is the fanciest look I could come up with using my very limited travel kit and wardrobe attire. Luckily, I'm in Pennsylvania aka vintage / antiques haven, so I got to dress up my plaid flannel shirt with some funky wooden 80's earrings I snatched for $1. Yay for casually festive :))

The Ghost of Xmas

Salut mes amis :))

Are you in the holiday spirit just yet? Is your house dressed up in lights, trees, candles and wintry decorations? Are you ready to sip on that eggnog & sing Christmas carols or will you be lighting your minora candles & spinning that dreidel for Hanukkah? As promised, my next few makeup looks for the month will be inspired by the upcoming holidays, and today's look is once again Christmas spirited. Honestly speaking, I'm not really an X-mas person, but since my blog space is all about positivity and good vibes, I'm embracing the holiday season and dropping my "Bah Humbug" attitude. Well, maybe not completely... after all, my look for today is entitled the Ghost of Christmas for a reason. Santa knows I'm sometimes naughty :)))

Tracks On My Snow-Nails

Hello beauty lovers :))

Time for my weekly nail update!! This wintry nail design was envisioned by my papa and created by moi. My dad is a poster artist and graphic designer, so he's always giving me funky and original (nail) art ideas. This "snow tracks" nail design is simple and easy to create, but with enough interest to make someone look twice and appreciate your mani. Best part--it goes with everything!!

Mistletoe Mistress

Salut mes belles!!

Happy Sunday!! With the holidays approaching ever so quickly, I've been getting a lot of requests for seasonal makeup looks, so the rest of the month will be dedicated to festive evening looks for the special occasion. I'll try to be as versatile as possible and include office appropriate looks as well as more specialized ones for both Christmas and Hanukkah. Today's maquillage is a classic Hollywood starlet inspired look featuring red (and a pinch of green), as it is probably the most worn color pop of the season. This look is simple enough for an office party, but can also be worn to a sexy Mistletoe singles mingle. Thank you all for your requests, comments, and questions--keep 'em comin'!!!

Mistletoe Mistress is in character :)))

Simply Organic!

Happy Friday mes amis!!

If you're a regular follower of my blog, then you remember that a couple of weeks ago, I reviewed some wonderful eyeshadows from an all Green makeup brand Zosimos Botanicals. I was so pleased with the quality of the shadows that one post was simply not enough and I decided to do another makeup look. My original "Rockin' Organix" look was quite conceptual and dramatic--I wanted to show that one can create an edgy makeup look using mineral eye shadows. This time, I'm featuring a very wearable, every day ensemble and something that even a makeup rookie can replicate. For a full review and description of the products and the brand, revisit my Rockin' Organix post or go to Zosimos' website for more info.

"No Makeup" Makeup made 4 CHILLIN'

Bonjour mes amis,

Question: How many of you prefer natural makeup over dramatic makeup?

Confession: I DO... *

*For every day, that is :)))

Every day does not mean school, work or shopping--these are all responsibilities that we wish weren't a part of our daily lives--hence, we want to look our best when are trying to achieve, accomplish and earn so that we can do the things we really like to do. What I'm taking about is something we New Yorkers like to refer to as CHILLIN'... We go to school and work, we run errands and pay our bills, we hustle and bustle, so that we can ultimately just chill. One can chill in front of the TV with a glass of wine or on a beach with a stack of magazines and a piña colada or simply sober on a nature trail, so whatever tickles your fancy, you can chill anyway you like!! For my chill occasions, I like to be simple: "no makeup" makeup, natural hair, my sweats and my smile :))) Off I go!

Tropical Holidaze

Salut mes belles!!!

Continuing with my festive theme, today's makeup post is inspired by my nails of the week from my previous post. A few people (myself included) thought that my fishy scaly nails were reminiscent of the Missoni pattern, and since I've already done that one (see my original version), today's look is pseudo-Missoni, though just as fun ;)) My dress is actually Zara, my nails are actually scales, and my makeup is more-or-less tropical inspired. Whatever you take from this post is up to you, I'm just here to share another beauty idea for the holiday season! Hope you likey :)))

Fish Scales Nails

Joyeux les Week-End!!

As you can see, today's post is featuring my nail art of the week and this time it's a bit fishy. I wanted to do something with animal prints, but since most animal skins have been played out by everyone, I decided to go with fish scales. I haven't seen a lot of fishy nail art, so I thought I'd give it a go. It's kinda weird and abstract up close, but from far away it simply looks like a textured purple mani. Anyway, here it is: purple-y, scaly, sequin, festive, abstract, ombre, mermaid-ish, strange and exciting nail art of the week!!!

All I Want for Xmas is: the NAKED Palette 2

Hellooo mes amis!

Yes, today is December 1st and yes that means that the Urban Decay Naked Palette 2 is officially not a mystery. Being an Urban Decay junkie and an absolute crackhead with my original Naked palette, I am seriously the first in line for my Naked 2! Hence, I am putting my request out there in the universe: All I want for Christmas is my Naked Palette Two!!! Thanks friends, fam and UD pr for noting ::wink wink:: :)))

Today's makeup was done using the original Naked palette and is a look requested by Sammie, who wanted to see a more dramatic evening look and tutorial using eye shadows from the infamous palette. One doesn't have to go bare to be NAKED :))

Leopardiva

Salut mes belles!

As many of you know, (being Russian and all) I'm quite obsessed with the leopard print... I own a ton of leopard patterned scarves, dresses, tops, shoes, wallets, nail strips etc. and I really don't care if some think of it as tacky hehe... I'm proud of my leopard addiction and refuse to go to rehab!! Last night, I was feeling animalistic once again, and decided to go all out by wearing my favorite pattern on top of my favorite pattern i. e. leopard on leopard :)) Voila!

Rockin' Organix!

Hello old friends and new!!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend and feel happy, healthy and rejuvenated. I feel rejuvenated and excited, hence my makeup of the day is bright and funky. Today's post is very special and my makeup is exciting for a good reason. In this post, I'm featuring a look I created using eye shadows sent to me by Zosimos Botanicals--a cruelty-free Green cosmetics company I'm proud to present and review here today! Who said natural makeup has to be barely there and unnoticeable?! I'm here to set the record straight: mineral/organic makeup can be as fun, bright, edgy and creative as any other leading makeup brand, only it is better for you because it is free of nasty chemicals, parabens, and other toxins. Voila--yet another reason to convert to Green :))

Blue and Purple Raindrops

Happy Rainy Wednesday mes amis :))

This week has been a little busy, so excuse my lack of long & detailed posts. As always, when my life gets hectic, I usually just take pix moments before I run out the door and write the post later, hoping that my makeup of the day is interesting enough to be the subject of the post. Besides, my blogging philosophy is about consistency: "make time, regardless of how busy you are" (that's my pep talk to myself :)) Anyway, feeling inspired by blue and purple raindrops as well as my glitter nails of the week, here is the maquillage I wore today:

Nails made 4 a DIVA

Bonjour mes amis!!

I'm back again with yet another nail post. As you can probably tell, I'm kind of obsessed over nail art & creative manicures, so I'm always trying to come up with something fun to wear on my finger tips. I'm not big into fashion trends but I really appreciate nail trends and fully enjoy recreating them and sharing my versions here. A Teal Ordeal

Bonjour mes belles :))

Hope your Tuesday is bright, beautiful and sunny! My post for today is all about the beauty of brightness featuring my favorite color of the moment: TEAL. Remember my Teal Appeal post? How about my more recent Arabian Nights makeup or Avatar inspired nail art post? Yeah, I'm definitely obsessing over the blue-green family and in order to get it out of my system, I must play it out till it's dry! So, in today's 3-in-1 makeup--nailart--style post, I'm showcasing several ways to accent your features using a pop of color, in this case TEAL... yup I said it again :)  Here's a preview:

The Modern Gothika

Salut mes amis :)

Happy Friday! In today's post, I'm showing off a slightly different side of me--a darker, vampier, more gothic style and makeup look to match. Fact: my makeup love and addiction started with gothic dressing and hairstyles when I was about 13... I was all about embracing the darkness, so going back to my Buffy days is very reminiscent and nostalgic. The maquillage I'm showcasing today is nowhere near as fancy and intricate as I used to wear in my teenage years, but it still has that dark appeal and essence. As you know, my makeup looks are often inspired by "such and such," but I always try to keep them as modern and wearable as possible (unless otherwise stated :) Here's my makeup look of the day: The Modern Gothika--perfect for anyone who likes to tip toe on the Dark Side mwa-ha-ha :)))

Jewel Tones & Precious Stones

Salut mes amis :))

October has come and gone and November is officially here to bring 2011 closer and closer to the end. How quickly time flies--it seems just yesterday I was blogging about the beginning of summer, beach days, tan skin, and bright colors... Oh well... Now I get to talk about autumn colors!! I'm starting the month off by whipping out my Urban Decay Naked Palette (last month I've been challenging myself to use other products and I've missed my baby) and reviving my plummy, fall appropriate smokey eye and glossy lip. Here's a simple makeup look & jewel tone ensemble I wore last week to my bday dinner with my besties.

Salut mes amis!

Hope you're all happy and healthy. Today's post is a lashes review + easy makeup look in one, and I created this one just in time for Halloween. I've been carelessly neglecting the fact that Halloween is heavily revolved around makeup, so the next few posts will be dedicated strictly to costume makeup for this grandiose occasion!! T-Shirt Tyme!

Hey old friends and new!!!

Today's post is a quickie, focusing on clothing rather than makeup and showing off a bit of my personal style. Since posting my Blair and Serena makeup posts, I've received a few questions about my dressing style, as well as requests to share pictures of things I like to wear. My style tends to vary depending on what I'm doing and where I'm going (like the rest of you, I'm sure), but I feel most comfortable in leggings, sweats or jeans and a T-shirt. So, in today's post I'm featuring my every day casual attire, centering around the graphic tee. Take a lookie:

Salut les filles :)))

Hope you're as excited about Friday as I am!! Today's post is a two-in-one: nail art of the week and makeup or face of the day. This week I wanted to pay homage to October's breast cancer awareness, so I was inspired by the color pink. Since I've done many many pink on pink makeup looks and nail creations, I wanted to introduce a complementary color--chocolate brown, to showcase how beautifully the two colors play off one another.

Salut mes belles!!

Happy Wednesday and a BIG, happy "yipppeeeee" to my 500 followers :)) I'm very excited to reach this monumental figure and I'm thinking of ways to celebrate you all, so please stay tuned!!!

As the title of my post suggests, today's maquillage du jour is dedicated to bridal / wedding makeup, featuring the most beautiful bride I've yet to lay my eyes on: my dear friend Amelia. A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of doing the makeup for Amy and her bridal party, as well as attending the lovely ceremony and reception afterwards. The day was filled with so much love, joy and excitement--the most fun I've ever had at a wedding--that I just had to share this beautiful occasion with my readers.

Bold & BLAIR-ing

"Good Morning Upper East Siders!"

You've guessed correctly, today's makeup post is once again Gossip Girl inspired. My second GG installment is dedicated to Blair Waldorf, portrayed by the lovely Leighton Meester. Blair is known for her prim and proper lady-like attire with a whimsical flair that is not one bit stiff or boring. No stale upper crust here, Blair's style is bold, beautiful and classic. Unlike Serena's beachy vibe, Blair goes for traditional, timeless makeup looks that work great with her brunette coloring and feminine features. I loved creating this look, because it is so different from what I normally wear, so without further delay, here's what I came up with:
I was relieved that at the very least, the actress and I have the same hair color. Other than that, we look pretty darn different, so don't fault for me for not delivering a carbon copy. Here are the stills that I was inspired by :))

Stylish & Serena

"Good Morning Upper East Siders"

If you recognize this phrase, then you know that today's post is dedicated to...

::drumroll::

xoxo,

Gossip Girl!!!

Yes, I too, take part in the cult following of this young adult dramedy and cannot deny that it is one of my guilty pleasures to watch every Monday night. Sure, the plot is luke warm, and the acting is rather mediocre, but who the heck watches GG for the story lines?? It's all about the fashion baby, and the boys are cute too (says the 13-year-old in me)... well, just Nate. Anyway, after watching GG last night, I was inspired to do a Serena Van der Woodsen makeover... or just her makeup. For the head-to-toe makeover, I would need Eric Daman himself (the head honcho of GG's fashion sense) to give me his stylish eye and the generous wardrobe budget that comes with it. For now, I'll just play dress up :))
I know I don't look like Serena (Blake Lively), but I'm channeling her quiet confidence & polished yet carefree style... This is the still that inspired me:

Line Up the Cat Eye Drama

Bonjour mes belles!!! Happy Wednesday :)

My look of the day is none other than my favorite go-to: a bold cat eye and a pinky lip. I always get a ton of comments on the way I line my eyes, so today I'm showcasing yet another style that's perfect for a day or evening makeup look. Notice that I'm extending the inner corner to make the eyes bigger and more exotic. This step is an option for those of you who aren't afraid of little drama... play it down with a simple pink or purple lip and there you have it--cat eye drama for any occasion!! Here's a slightly androgynous preview pic of moi wearing this simple yet effective maquillage :)))

Every Rose Has Its Thorn

Salut mes amis,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle the new week!! My Monday has been hectic so far, but I'm handling it with a smile on my face, as always. My maquillage du jour is a bit different from my usual makeup looks, but I wanted to kick off the month of October on a slightly different note. Truth be told, I hardly ever wear green eyeshadow... I feel that it brings out the green tint in my skin and makes me look slightly sickly. Today, I wanted to confront my fear of the green by offsetting the eyeshadow with a bright pink lipstick and forcing the look to work for me. I was going for grungy rocker, just slightly more chic and polished... cuz it's true what they say: Every Rose Has Its Thorn :)))

A Tribute to Missoni

Buongiorno!!

No need to explain my nails of the week, they're pretty self explanatory :)) With the help of a few nail polishes and nail art pens, the famous Missoni zigzag stripes have made their way onto my nails!! Smokey Eyes & Time for Wine

Bonjour les filles :))

Today, I'm going back to my challenge and showcasing a plummy smokey eye evening look I wore a few weeks ago to a day of various celebratory functions. At the beginning of the month, I challenged myself to incorporate different cosmetics brands into my makeup repertoire, as I had mostly been using Urban Decay for a lot of my makeup looks. Branching out to other makeup brands has been really fun and I've rediscovered a ton of great products that are both easy to use and easy to obtain. Who says you need fancy makeup to look fancy? Drug store makeup will do just fine ;)

I love a good bargain!

Salut mes amis,

Happy Sunday :)) I just got back from visiting some extended family in PA and I've got a few things to share!! Every time I go to PA, I always come back with goodies from the Cosmetics Company Outlet (they don't have one in NYC) as well as some dirt cheap vintage finds from cool consignment stores and/or flea markets. Pennsylvania has got some of the best thrift shopping anyone can ask for and I never leave empty handed. My bf and I love to scour for antiques and things, and we enjoy a good bargain like every other New Yorker who's used to being robbed on a daily basis... hehe. Anyway, in today's post I'm showing-off my newly acquired "discounted MAC" makeup and a few snippets from my trip :))

Fierce Clawz

Salut mes amis :))

I haven't done a nails post in quite a while, so I'm way overdue and today I'm fixing that issue. I do my nails about once a week, sometimes every 10 days depending on the nail polish and the style & length of my nails. This week I was inspired by runway nails seen on the catwalks of NY Fashion Week and fierce red stiletto nails seen on various celebs. As much as I love the idea of fierce, sharp, claw-like stiletto nails, I think they only look good on Rihanna, so I won't even attempt to recreate them on my "boy hands". Instead, I'm going for the alternative: a reverse French chevron style in gold and red.

The Eurasian

Hello old friends and new :))

Hope you're all happy and healthy!! Thank you all for your feedback on my new cut, I really appreciate your comments and compliments :)) In my last post, I made a joke about looking "extra asian" with straightened hair, which had consequently invited a bunch of questions regarding my ethnicity. These questions couldn't come at a more appropriate time as I had just been contacted by some government officials from one of the places where I am from to do some work. I know this sounds very cryptic at the moment, but if you keep reading, I promise to make sense of it. I'll even talk a little about makeup hehe :))

Can you guess where I'm from? (hint: my earrings are from there too :))

Light as a Feathered Bang

Ni-hao :))

Here a quick post to show off my new cut. Basically, I wanted to cut off about 2 inches of dead weight, fix the layers, and feather the bangs. My hairstylist fulfilled my cut request, but he completely ignored me when I said I didn't want my hair pin straight (he does this all the time). Once again, I ended up looking extra asian when I was done lol. I don't mind it so much though, I'll be in character until my next wash (^.^)
