NYFW 2013: Vivienne Tam

Bonjour mes amis! New York Fashion Week is over, but I'm still excited, inspired and totally lingering under my impression of the moment. One of my favorite shows from this season was the Vivienne Tam Fall / Winter 2013 Collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, which I attended on Sunday. I joined my friends from Incoco in the awesome craze of backstage, got to meet and interview MUA's, hair stylists and models, then enjoyed the runway and snapped tons of pics. It was an amazing experience and today, I'm bringing you the inside scoop!

"The Fall / Winter 2013 Collection is about cultural dialogue, change and awakenings" -- Vivienne Tam
Tam's Collection was inspired by the conceptual underpinnings of the punk movement, the premise of Pop Art, and the essence of Yin and Yang. The designer implemented identifiable imagery from mass media (Pop Culture Obama), graphical accents reminiscent of Mondrian, as well as graffiti prints of Mao's writings and other mantras that contextualize culture. The collection featured vibrant hues of red, white and black with highlights of electric blue and military details in army green and slate.

Backstage Beauty: Hair by TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu

To compliment Vivienne Tam's inspiration of punk and new wave movements of the 80's, TRESemmé lead stylist Jeanie Syfu created a chic, modern, faux fringe updo reminiscent of the era. This genius hairstyle blew me away and totally inspired me to try it at home (I actually created a whole makeup look based around the style and will be sharing it here along with Jeanie's how-to very soon!). Products Used:

  • TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Mousse to prep the hair
  • TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray to sleek back and set the hair
  • TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Serum to set the twist
  • TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Anti-Frizz Secret Creme to finish the fringe

Here's the beautiful Kelly Gale giving face while getting her hair did and modeling the finished result.

Backstage Beauty: Makeup by MAC Lead Makeup Artist Maud Laceppe

The makeup artists for MAC used Prolongwear Concealer and Face & Body Foundation set with MAC translucent finishing powder and Soft & Gentle Mineralize Skin Finish to set the perfect skin canvas for the makeup. The artists used Pearl and Shell Cream Color Base on the lids, lips, nose and high points of the face to illuminate and highlight the features. The eyes were lined and extended in a chic cat-eye style and the cheeks were finished with Taupe blush. My favorite part, of course, was the lips and here's how the look can be achieved:

  1. Create a defined lip line using MAC lip liner in Currant. Blend into the entire lip area.
  2. Use MAC Nightmoth to create dimension and depth.
  3. Combine equal parts of Black and Plum lip mix and for the lip color.

 Backstage Beauty: Nails by Incoco
Because Incoco real nail polish appliqués are dry and mistake-proof, the manicurists breezed through prep time and had the models' fingertips ready in minutes. Incoco products are ideal for fashion week and reduce the stress levels of backstage prep with no-fuss application and zero drying time.
