Fire Eyes, Flaming Lips

Cheers mes amis!

A while ago, I posted a poll asking you to choose one of your most feared makeup trends. Although I don't exactly remember the choices, I remember the outcome. Not surprisingly, red eyeshadow was feared by nearly 75% of you (myself included), so I thought I'd confront this fear and give red eye a try. Here's what I came up with, so fear no more!

Forget everything you heard about red shadow and embrace these facts:
  1. Red makes the whites of your eyes whiter and brighter
  2. Skin appears more even and redness is reduced (!!!)
  3. Red eyeshadow is different. Your makeup is guaranteed to stand out of the crowd, duh :)
Burning a hole with my red fire eyes
RED HOT or RED NOT?

Me so tired... Gotta say, the red eye look is so timely because it has become a permanent fixture on my face due to sleepless nights and an overloaded schedule. Over the past two weeks, I've become an eye drop addict, so if any of you know of any healthier remedies or tips on how to heal bloodshot eyes, please let me know. On a side note, I also need some help fixing the 'red eye' in photoshop, and this time I'm talking about the red-eye effect in photography. OK, on to the maquillage...

ABOUT THE MAQUILLAGE: To make red eyeshadow work, I made sure to mix it with a bit of burgundy and purple in the crease and accent with silver in the inner corner. The result is very edgy, particularly when paired with red lips. I think la bouche rouge actually makes this look more wearable than it would be with nude or dark lips.

Where would I wear it to?

--to a Prince concert, duh... though he's more likely to appreciate the purple. Maybe he'd pull me on stage and I'd shake it... or something

Where did I wear it to?

--to get a slice and no one was amused :(

The moral of the story--this is a conceptual makeup look that would probably be better off left to a makeup artist, a huge enthusiast with loads of time of their hands or simply to a makeup nerd like me. So, because this look is complicated, I won't go into the details. Enjoy the pix!! :)

Maquillage Tip #1: If you're not feeling totally comfortable with red eyeshadow, rim the entire eye with a black liner. This will create a separation between the shadow and the whites of your eyes as well as frame them.

Maquillage Tip #2: Extend the inner corners ONLY if you have wide set eyes. If you don't know, now you know: you have wide set eyes if and only if your eye (size) can fit in the space between your eyes comfortably with room left over. If it fits exactly, you have normal spaced eyes. Anything less than your eye size means you have closely set eyes. When measuring your eye space, make sure you're not wearing any makeup.

Maquillage tip #3: With a bright eye and lip look, keep the brows simple and natural. I left my brows alone (for the most part) and just filled in the ends, since they're not as full as in the center.

Do you feel the flame of my fire eyes? Wear your maquillage rouge with confidence!

Removing makeup can be fun and artistic too

Dressed in rouge, from the eyes to la bouche :)
Maquillage tip: Makeup doesn't have to be a boring chore about covering up flaws, this is not what my blog is about. You are perfect in your own special way and my mission is to inspire you to allow makeup to do its job of highlighting your beauty and boosting your confidence. So, if you haven't already--go ahead and try something new, use your creativity, channel your inner diva and enjoy the outcome :)

bisous,

Maryam Maquillage
