Bluesy Neutrals

Bonjour mes amis! It's the last day of the month and I'm closing it off with a pop of color! A few days ago, I received my first batch of Makeup Geek eye shadows and gel liners to play with and wanted my first MUG look to be wearable, fun and holiday-appropriate. With Hanukkah right around the corner, I thought I'd focus on blues and whites (or in this case, neutrals) to deliver a bright-yet-suble look that anyone can replicate!

I've been a fan of Makeup Geek's Marlena for as long as I can remember -- her immaculate tutorials are super professional and easy to follow, her branding and business savvy are incredibly inspiring and her makeup skills are simply top notch. Makeup Geek cosmetics line doesn't disappoint either -- the shadows and gel liners are excellent and affordable. I always say that indie brands started by MUA's are so much better than beauty conglomerates. It just makes sense!

I've also just signed up to MakeupGeek.com beauty community under my name: Maryam Maquillage and can't wait to reunite with all of you and continue sharing our passion!!

For today's look, I used the following MUG eye shadows and gel liner:
  • Vanilla Bean -- almost matte vanilla shade with a slight sheen (lid & highlight)
  • Beaches & Cream -- matte peachy natural beige (blending)
  • Creme Brulee -- matte medium warm sand (crease)
  • Drama Queen -- shimmery brownish purple (outer "V" & lower lash line)
  • Electric -- bright royal blue (top lash line and lower lashes)

Primer:

Lashes:
Bluesy Neutral Eyes How-To:
  1. Prime your lids and allow the primer to set.
  2. Apply a white sticky base (NYX -- Milk) to the lid and under the brow and blend the color using a flat synthetic bristle brush.
  3. Using a stiff flat natural bristle brush and patting motions, apply Vanilla Bean to the lid, sealing in the white sticky base.
  4. Seal in the brow highlight using Vanilla Bean on a flat angled brush.
  5. With a dome shaped brush, apply Beaches & Cream to the crease using windshield wiper motions and blend the color up towards the brow bone.
  6. Using the same technique as in the previous step, apply Creme Brulee slightly below Beaches & Cream to create a soft gradient. Also, apply this color to the lower lash line. If you have lighter skin, use Beaches & Cream instead.
  7. Using a tapered pencil brush, outline the outer "V" and line the lower lash line using Drama Queen. Blend out any harsh lines using a dome shaped brush.
  8. Line the top lash line with Electric gel liner and extend the inner and outer corner wings very slightly to mimic a cat eye.
  9. Apply you false lashes and add some color to the bottom lashes using Electric gel liner on a q-tip.

Keep the rest of the face clean with neutral pink blush and nude lips. I'm wearing:

LIPS:
Blues & Neutrals are great for brown eyes and add a touch of color to any outfit. This wearable look is perfect for the workplace and can be re-interpreted in time for Hanukkah or any other holiday. Skip the lashes to simplify this look or add some glitter on top of the liner to take it up a notch! Will you be wearing blues & neutrals this season?

    1. Thanks honey!! I think it's the contrast w/ Vanilla Bean that makes it stand out. When worn alone, I didn't find it as vibrant, but it is a gooooorgeous color!!
