The "New Wave" Spin on Arabic Makeup

Hello Dolls!! It's Friday and I've had a he// of an amazing week! First off, I want to humbly share that I was named as the first winner of Dinair Digi Beauty Awards in the Emerging Beauty Blogger category. I am so ecstatic, elated and grateful for this amazing opportunity. This win is so monumental for me and I can't even begin to express to you how thankful I am for your support and votes. You guys helped make this happen and I heart you all so so much!!! With that said, today's look is totally celebratory -- I'm going all out with the colors & styles and I'm bringin' on the drama with this 80's take on Arabic makeup. I really enjoyed creating this one and I hope you like it too <3

 New Wave meets Arabic Chic
Today's edgy look was inspired by this season's runway hits from the NY Fashion Week. I was particularly blown away by the awesome hair and makeup at the Vivienne Tam show, which featured lots of sharp angles, strong silhouettes and some fierce 80's throw-back hair. Check out TRESemmé master Jeanie Syfu for a thorough tutorial of this new wave punk hairstyle. To build off my inspiration, I went for a complicated Arabic makeup look, but gave it an 80's rocker spin to keep it edgy and fun. I paired the strong eyes and brows with soft nude lips and rosy cheeks.

For this look, I'm using Glamour Doll Eyes eyeshadows, made from earth minerals. I love using loose shadows and pigments for dramatic makeup looks (since they are the most saturated and pigmented) and these shadows are some of the easiest to use. The color pay-off is excellent, the shadows are brilliantly shiny and the colors really pack a punch. Check out that sparkle!

Glamour Doll Eyes offers several size options and tons of package deals like grab bags and special color collections, as well as lip stuff and other beauty goodies. My favorite is the enormous eyeshadow collection, check it out in full: GlamourDollEyes.com
  • Sarcasm (shimmery chartreuse) -- a very wearable spring-y shade with lots of golden shimmer. A gorgeous stand-alone shade that's also great for layering. Lip Safe. Vegan. Worn on the lid.
  • Disco White (white with aqua glitter) -- the perfect highlight shade that's also great for mixing. I am obsessed! Lip Safe. Vegan. Worn on the inner corner of the eye and brow bone.
  • Candy Floss (bright pink with blue undertones and sparkles) -- pretty and pink, this shade is quite wearable and really easy to use for blending. Lip Safe. Not Vegan. Used to blend out Morocco in the transition between the crease and brow bone.
  • Morocco (dark brown with golden sparkles) -- this shade is absolutely stunning and the name couldn't be more fitting. Lip Safe. Vegan. Worn on the crease and outer corner
  • Fiji Mermaid (shimmery teal) -- another stunner, this baby is bright and vibrant like a mermaid's tale. Not Lip Safe. Vegan. Worn on the lower lash line to give the look a pop!
  • Pistol Pistol (sparkly lavender / gunmetal) -- my favorite of the bunch, this shade is very complex and glam. This is a true stand-alone shade, so I used it sparingly, on my inner crease. I'm thinking there's a sophisticated gunmental smokey eye in my future ;) Worn minimally on the inner crease. Lip Safe. Vegan.
Other Products Used:

LIPS: Sweet Pea & Fay "J'Adore Les Levres" Liquid Lipstick in Ukulele (BIG review coming up!)

FACE: Too Faced No Makeup Makeup
This is a complicated look, so I won't go into a tutorial. If you're interested in learning how to apply Arabic Makeup, check out my "Arabian Nights, Arabian Days" pictorial tutorial. Today, I'll just give you some valuable tips :)

TIPS for applying pigments / loose eyeshadows:
  • Always use a sticky base under loose pigments. This helps them adhere and last all day!
  • Use a flat stiff brush for application and pat on the shadows. Swiping will remove the pigment and can result in a very muddy finish.
  • For a pop of saturated color, apply the shadows wet. Simply mix a drop of water or mixing spray and paint it on.
  • Lip safe pigments can be mixed with gloss or vaseline to create your own custom lip color! Try it with some of Glamour Doll Eyes lip safe pigments.
