"Summer Kaleidoscope" Hand-Painted Nail Art

Salut mes amis! It's been a while since my last hand-painted nail art post, so today, I've decided to make up for the lost time! With the help of Inglot's latest breathable nail polishes and my trusty nail art brush, I created this whimsical summer nail art inspired by tribal patterns, kaleidoscopes and stained glass windows. This design was truly a joy in the making and though it took nearly an hour and a half to complete, I couldn't be happier with the result!

Read on for pix, tips, & deets!

With colors so gorgeous, I simply couldn't choose just a couple of shades, so I decided to go with them all!!

To hand-paint this kaleidoscope nail art, I worked in layers and broke up the design into three basic stages:
  1. Base Color
    • I used the lavender polish (#686) for most of my nails and chose 2 accent colors for my accents nails -- coral pink (#683 pictured above) for my right pointer finger and the blue green (#687 pictured in the first image) for my left ring finger.
  2. Shapes
    • With a fine nail art brush, I used the remaining polishes to paint symmetrical shapes, starting from the center of the nail.
    • I painted the shapes using one polish at a time and working on all my nails simultaneously.
    • I used a piece of foil as a palette and cleaned off the brush with acetone between colors.
  3. Outline
    • To bring out the pattern, I outlined the major shapes with a white nail art pen. This step makes the design pop by giving it crispness, sharpness and contrast.
I completed the nail art with a top coat to seal the design and add shine.
