Bold & BLAIR-ing

"Good Morning Upper East Siders!"

You've guessed correctly, today's makeup post is once again Gossip Girl inspired. My second GG installment is dedicated to Blair Waldorf, portrayed by the lovely Leighton Meester. Blair is known for her prim and proper lady-like attire with a whimsical flair that is not one bit stiff or boring. No stale upper crust here, Blair's style is bold, beautiful and classic. Unlike Serena's beachy vibe, Blair goes for traditional, timeless makeup looks that work great with her brunette coloring and feminine features. I loved creating this look, because it is so different from what I normally wear, so without further delay, here's what I came up with:
I was relieved that at the very least, the actress and I have the same hair color. Other than that, we look pretty darn different, so don't fault for me for not delivering a carbon copy. Here are the stills that I was inspired by :))
Read more for descriptions, details, reviews, and more pix :))

In her clothing, Blair wears a lot of primary colors in luxurious fabrics like silks and chiffons; and the cuts of the clothes are always very different and special. Whether it's a Victorian neckline, an intricate pleat or delicate ruffles, Blair's pieces are picked out with great love and attention to the character. Here are some examples of Blair's style:
and the infamous headbands :))
yellow never mellow: Blair and Serena

On to the maquillage!

I'm channeling Blair's sly personality and her continuous trick-up-the-sleeve hehe...
FACE:
  • Laura Mercier mineral foundation primer
  • Bare Minerals matte foundation in Golden Medium (not pictured)
  • Coastal Scents eyeshadow from the 28 neutral palette for contouring
  • Coastal Scents peach blush from the blush palette
  • NARS highlighter in Albatross

EYES:

--UD Primer Potion
--Benefit Erase Paste in #3 (under eye concealer)
--CS e/s (28 neutral palette)
--Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner pencil in Whiskey
--Carlo di Rossi undereye pencil (used in the waterline)
--L'Oréal Telescopic mascara in Blackest Black

TIP: To make your eyes rounder, draw the crease slightly above your natural crease and exaggerate the curve. Also, line underneath the eyes, concentrating most of the product in the center of the lower lash line.

LIPS:

--Wet n' Wild lipliner #665
--Revlon Super lustrous lipstick in Kiss Me Coral

TIPS & TRICKS: Bright lipstick can dramatically change the shape and size of your lips. I used a matching lipliner to curve up the corners of my mouth to look more like Leighton's. This is why Blair looks like she's always smiling... especially when she's scheming :)))

CONTOURING TRICKS:
To contour the nose, choose a powder that is a few shades darker than your skin tone and a medium size fluffy brush. Start from under the brow and draw a soft line down the side of your nose all the way to the tip. From there, draw a thin line along the side of your nostril. The shape should look like a "V" or a downward facing arrow. Blend out the lines with your finishing powder and repeat on the other side of the nose. For this look, I also contoured the sides of my face to slim my massive cheeks and jawline haha..
As much as I love Blair's flair (and flare), I cannot stick to her style 100%. I think it works well for the character because she is very dainty, slim and girly. Although, I am very petite (5 ft 2 in), I'm not super slim like Blair, so clothes like this make me look very womanly (matronly, if you will) and sometimes frumpy. I used to dress like this back in high school and people always thought I was in my twenties, so I would definitely not want to look like I'm in my thirties now... no offense to anyone who's 30, but I'm not there yet and I like looking my age :)) Having said that, I enjoy the prim and proper, but with a bit of an edge :))
My take on Blair and her Victorian necklines :)))

  32. I agree, why look older than you are? I once wore something that I wasn't sure if it was too "old" for me or not, and someone thought I was 30. As you said, no offense to those who are 30, but I'll look 30 when I'm 30, thank you very much!!! I don't wear that outfit anymore. Yellow is a great colour on you, and I love what you've done with your lips!
