Light, Bright & Lovely

Mornin' y'all! Today's quick post is an up-close featuring a contrasting duo of soft baby pink eyeshadow and sharp shimmery jet black cat-eyeliner. I love this modern take on the classic pin-up eye, and I wear it almost daily. A lot of people ask about my favorite type of makeup for everyday, so I thought I'd share one of my personal classics.

Ball-Droppin' New Years Makeup!

Salut mes amis!!

If you can't tell by my "clever" post title, today's look is another makeup idea for New Years 2012 :)) In this post, I'm presenting a sleek cat eye cut-crease look that may seem tricky at first glance, but it's actually quite easy to recreate! This eye makeup appealed to me particularly because it looks as though it took a lot of time and effort, when in fact, it took no longer than your average smokey eye! I'm adding another easy step-by-step tutorial so that anyone can follow along and duplicate this one. So, check out this look if you're ready to stand out of the crowd when that ball drops!! Are you ready for New Years or what??!!!

Mistletoe Mistress

Salut mes belles!!

Happy Sunday!! With the holidays approaching ever so quickly, I've been getting a lot of requests for seasonal makeup looks, so the rest of the month will be dedicated to festive evening looks for the special occasion. I'll try to be as versatile as possible and include office appropriate looks as well as more specialized ones for both Christmas and Hanukkah. Today's maquillage is a classic Hollywood starlet inspired look featuring red (and a pinch of green), as it is probably the most worn color pop of the season. This look is simple enough for an office party, but can also be worn to a sexy Mistletoe singles mingle. Thank you all for your requests, comments, and questions--keep 'em comin'!!!

Mistletoe Mistress is in character :)))

Line Up the Cat Eye Drama

Bonjour mes belles!!! Happy Wednesday :)

My look of the day is none other than my favorite go-to: a bold cat eye and a pinky lip. I always get a ton of comments on the way I line my eyes, so today I'm showcasing yet another style that's perfect for a day or evening makeup look. Notice that I'm extending the inner corner to make the eyes bigger and more exotic. This step is an option for those of you who aren't afraid of little drama... play it down with a simple pink or purple lip and there you have it--cat eye drama for any occasion!! Here's a slightly androgynous preview pic of moi wearing this simple yet effective maquillage :)))

Sunny Yellow Nail Enamel :)

Hi friends!

The sun has come out and I am basking in its glory. I just completed my finals and have about a week to celebrate before I start my summer courses... womp womp. I could be sad, but I'm excited because that will be the end of that! Anyway, here are my nails of the week (last week), they've been making me happy at times when I needed a pick me up. My awesome yellow nail polish is Unicorn by Sinful Colors (I always thought unicorns were lavender, but oh well) and surprisingly, this color is extremely easy to wear. Check it out!

Rolled-outta-bed waves

Bonjour!

Today's quickie post is about my fave springy-summery hairstyle: messy, just-rolled-out-of-bed waves. I am clueless about hair and how to achieve these looks, so I kinda just wing it... here's the style on Gossip Girl's Blake Lively and on Vanessa Hudgens (not sure why she's famous)...

I was going for something in-between... check out my version :)

Leopard 101

Salut old friends and new!!!

Welcome to my bloggy, hope you like makeup and stuff ;) Aside from doing makeup looks and cosmetics reviews, I'm also into other beauty related topics such as hair care, nails, accessories and fashion. I haven't yet swayed too far from maquillage, but I'm planning on "diversifying", so please let me know what you'd like to see on here. I'm eager to share and also to learn from each and every one of you!!

Having said that, my maquillage du jour is inspired by my Leopard top that I recently bought from H&M... Given that I am from Russia, I love all things leopard, regardless of how tacky they may be. Take that Ilan (my French bff who loathes leopard) Pow!

Fresh Lavender

Salut mes belles :)

Since so many of you have told me that you looove makeup tutorials and looks, today's post will be a quickie of one of my favorite go-to everyday makeup looks featuring another cat eye in a wash of metallic lavender eyeshadow. Try it, hope you like it!

To see the step by step cat eye liner how-to, check out my post The Purrfect Cat Eye (it's a popular one :) and you'll be an expert in no time!

The pictures don't do justice to the true pigmentation and sparkle of this Bare Minerals eye shadow in Metallic Lavender... but trust you me, these mineral shadows are potent! You only need a little bit of this product to achieve maximum results! Thanks bestie for this awesome prezzie oxox :)) I loves 'it!

Start off with a primer and add a bit of a sticky base to the lid to act as an adhesive for the sparkly shadow. I like to use NYX jumbo eye pencils for this purpose.

  1. With a stiff flat brush, pack on the eyeshadow all over the lid
  2. Using a dome brush, blend out the edges. You can use an eyeshadow that is a couple shades darker than your skin
  3. Finish the eye look by lining the top lash line and coat the lashes with mascara.

Moody Blues + DIY French

Salut mes cheries :))

This is me, today... Candidly moving my hair from my face and showing off my fresh French. I like this pic, because it perfectly describes my mood today--a bit anxious and a bit moody... don't worry, I won't take it out on you :))

It was a gloomy, warm Monday in NYC, and as it's coming to a close, I'd like to end it on a positive note. I'll share with you my makeup of the day and I'll walk you through my do-it-yourself French manicure. Hope you enjoy :)))

Week in Review

Salut mes cheris!!!

Hope you're all doing well and are healthy and happy :)) I apologize for my week long hiatus, please don't think I've abandoned my blog, and know that my heart's been aching every day that I didn't write... This week's been pretty hectic and exciting, with Valentine's Day on Monday, a surprise party for my mom's milestone b-day on Wednesday and a spontaneous "Fun in the Sun" bbq at my dad's on Friday. I love my fam, so naturally I took a few pics to celebrate the festivities :))

This post will be a review of my maquillage throughout the week, in hopes to catchup and get back on track to my regular posting routine. yaaayyy!!!

bisous,

Maryam Maquillage
