V-Day Pregame

Salut les filles :))

Happy Friday and Happy Bornday to GiGi!!! So many holidays and birthdays this month--it is an overwhelming and exciting time of the year :)) Let's see, what's in store today...? My poll has closed and the winner of the most feared makeup trend is ::drumroll::..... Red Eyeshadow, of course. I fear it too, but I'm looking forward to experimenting and exploring the bloody trend, (said in my best British accent ;) so be on the lookout for the Red Eye post coming up very soon. A lot of you have also been asking me to do a how-to on lashes, and since my Lashtite semi-permanent glue and remover (for individual lashes/extensions) have just arrived in my mailbox, I'll have that tutorial coming up asap. For now, you can go to my Lady Vengeance post, scroll down to the bottom and read about the application of strip lashes (non-permanent falsies). I'll also have a bridal makeup tutorial for all you brides-to-be, and I'll try to fulfill some earlier celebrity requests, so don't forget to check back!!

Today's post will launch the countdown to V-Day... and I'll start it off short and sweet. Valentine's Day makeup can be as dramatic or natural as you like, but the key is keeping it romantic and feminine. This look will be perfect for the daytime, just to commemorate the holiday while you're at the office or perhaps on your day off with your significant other. Hope you enjoy!!

bisous,

Maryam Maquillage

P. S. It's V-Day for Egypt!!!

FOR THIS LOOK, YOU'LL NEED: A matte pink, a matte purple, and an iridescent lavender or pink eyeshadows, some mascara, some brushes, and your every day facial cosmetics.

HERE'S WHAT I USED: Palette: Coastal Scents 36 smokey palette (brushes are pointing to the colors I used). Primer: Laura Mercier mineral foundation primer. Foundation: Bare Minerals matte foundation in golden medium applied with a handy buki brush from Bare Minerals. Concealer: Lancome Maquicomplet in medium bisque. Mascara: L'OrĂ©al voluminous carbon black. Blush: Benefit Georgia Peach. Finishing spray: MAC Fix plus. All brushes are from Coastal Scents. Click to enlarge :))

FACE: For a flawless complexion, start with a primer and apply a tiny amount to the areas that need perfecting: t-zone, areas with enlarged pores, pimples, fine lines or discoloration. Use a mineral foundation and buff it on top of your primer. I switched my regular kabuki brush to a smaller, more precise "handy buki" and I like the result--the application is more controlled.

EYES: The eye look is sweet, simple and soft... I've been on a natural kick lately, so I'm skipping harsh black liner for this one. The point is for the eyes to pop without forcing them to :)
  1. Start by priming your lids (oops, I forgot to include my Urban Decay primer potion in the picture of products used)...
  2. Take a flat stiff brush and an iridescent lavender, peach or pink eyeshadow and apply it all over your lid using patting motions.
  3. With a fluffy dome shaped brush, take a matte bright pink shadow and work it into the outer corner of your eye, gently pulling the color inwards, using circular motions.
  4. Take a smaller pencil brush and a purple color and line the outer part of your crease and upper lash line, creating a sideways v-shape. Blend it out with the fluffy brush.
  5. Line the bottom lash line with the purple using the pencil brush and add some more purple to that outer "v".
  6. Curl your lashes, and add two coats of mascara to the top lashes only.
Brush your brows and seal them with gel or brow wax

For natural, fuller lashes, wiggle the mascara wand side to side ;)

APPLY a peachy blush on top of your cheekbones and line your lips with a neutral lipliner for subtle definition.

FINISH with a couple of spritz of MAC Fix + fluid to keep your makeup dewey and fresh. I love this product, I don't know what's in it and how it works, but it actually makes your makeup look so much more like your natural skin. Two thumbs up to Mac Fix plus spray!!

HAIR: This is what my hair looks like on its second day after being washed and blow dried. It's kinda beach-y and slept in, and I have to say, I'm satisfied with it. Too bad, I can never recreate this style when I want to and it only looks this way when I don't need it to. So, since I'm all about natural beauty in this post, I'm going to keep the hair as is... no fancy updo's or romantic curls, just simple bed head hair--a bit tousled, a bit disheveled and NO FUSS involved :))

A quick disclaimer: I have never dyed my hair, as in EVER, in my life... my highlights around the face are all natural sun bleaching from the summer. I was born with jet black hair, just like any normal asian child ;) and over the years, they've lightened up as my euro genes kicked in. I think. My eyebrows stayed black and no, I do not, and have not ever dyed them either. This is just how mother nature intended for me to be... I know a lot of you can relate, so that's why I shared this little tidbit :)))
V-DAY is right around the bend, so this will be the first look from a series of Valentine's looks that I'll be posting over the next couple of days. I hope this was a sufficient pre-game and that you keep coming back for more exciting makeup, beauty, fashion, life, love and motivational advice from yours truly. Do post your questions, comments, concerns, requests, etc. and I will do my best to address them all!!!
