Ball-Droppin' New Years Makeup!

Salut mes amis!!

If you can't tell by my "clever" post title, today's look is another makeup idea for New Years 2012 :)) In this post, I'm presenting a sleek cat eye cut-crease look that may seem tricky at first glance, but it's actually quite easy to recreate! This eye makeup appealed to me particularly because it looks as though it took a lot of time and effort, when in fact, it took no longer than your average smokey eye! I'm adding another easy step-by-step tutorial so that anyone can follow along and duplicate this one. So, check out this look if you're ready to stand out of the crowd when that ball drops!! Are you ready for New Years or what??!!!

This idea was taken from the makeup worn by Nicole Scherzinger on the X Factor, and customized to my liking. I did a cat eye (sharper angle of the outer wing) instead of Nicole's "Cleopatra" eye, added more sparkle and a more defined cut crease to better fit my features. Images are borrowed from hotcelebshome, collage is all my own.
Products used for this look:

EYES:
  • NYX base in White
  • NYX eye liner in Taupe (to "cut" the crease)
  • Urban Decay eyeshadow in Naked (to smudge out the cut-crease)
  • Urban Decay eyeshadow in Buck (to define the cut-crease)
  • Urban Decay eyeshadow in Sidecar (center lid)
  • Sephora eyeshadow in Aspen Summit (to define the lid)
  • Urban Decay eyeshadow in Polyester Bride (inner corner)
  • Clinique brush on cream liner in True Black
  • Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on pencil in Zero (waterline)
  • NYX glitter liner in Disco Queen (inner portion of lower lash line)
  • NYX glitter liner in Crystal (inner corner)
  • Darkness false lashes in K-ma 6
  • L'OrĂ©al Telescopic mascara in Blackest Black

SKIN:

LIPS:
  • NYX lip liner in Natural
  • NYX Mega Shine lip gloss in Smokey Look

To create this EYE look, start by priming your lids with a white sticky base:
  1. Using a Taupe eyeliner pencil, gently draw an oval shape a few mm above your natural crease. This cut-crease style works great on semi-Asian eyes like mine and Nicole's.
  2. With a stiff flat brush and a bit of neutral eyeshadow (UD-Naked), smudge out the drawn line upward towards your brow.
  3. Add a slightly darker shadow (UD-Buck) directly to the drawn pencil line to define it a bit more.
  4. Optional Step: Take a White eyeliner pencil and draw a line directly underneath the Taupe line and smudge it down. If you're using a white base, this step isn't necessary.
  5. Apply a shimmery neutral shadow (UD-Sidecar) onto your lid, staying under the drawn crease.
  6. Define the lid some more using a shimmery white eyeshadow (Sephora-Aspen Summit) on a stiff angled brush, applying it to the white border underneath the Taupe pencil line.
  7. Add a sparkly white shadow (UD-Polyester Bride) to the inner corners.
  8. Line the top and bottom lash lines with a black gel or cream liner (Clinique), connecting the two lines and extending the outer wing in a cat-eye (raised angle) or Cleopatra style (straight).
  9. Rim the top and bottom waterlines with a black waterproof eyeliner (UD-24/7-Zero).
  10. Apply your falsies and add your mascara and glitter liner.
The finished look & Photo-op: )

Pointy eyelashes give the eyes that extra oomph :))

  35. Love the name of this look, it made me LOL. And it's beautiful too, I'll have to try it out some time! I usually avoid cut creases like the plague because I'm rubbish at them and have uneven eyes, but I think I could actually manage to do this one. Not sure if I could master the liner though, you're just too skilled. ;]

  36. You've done an awesome job of re-creating this look! I really love this neutral-cut crease idea, usually I would go for something dark. The neutral colours really make the cat-eye liner and the bit of glitter stand out which makes them the focus of the look. Hope you had an awesome New Year's Eve!
